Wanting Pictures vs. Hating Being Photographed - The Struggle is Real

Jamie Frederick • Nov 30, 2022

When you want pictures, but hate being in front of the camera... some tips!

1. Wear something comfortable!

Now this doesn't mean your favorite college t-shirt and threadbare jeans (unless that's the look you're going for!) but if you're more of a jeans and t-shirt kind of person, opt for jeans with a nice shirt.

I am definitely a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal, so when I had photos done recently (photo credit to Virginia Photos and Films), I wore the jeans! I paired them with cute heels, but I wore the jeans.

Whatever makes you comfortable and feel amazing, wear it! Still unsure of where to start? Try your favorite color, or what you would wear for an evening out with friends.

2. Have a playlist!

Music is such an emotional experience. We all have songs that we just love... that make us dance... that make us sing at the top of our lungs (even when we can't carry a tune)... that feeling can be seen in pictures.

Have a playlist of your favorite dancing and "sing along with" songs on your phone. Play it while you're getting your pictures taken - while it's playing, sing along, dance, and just have fun!

Get lost in the music and let your photographer capture you in your element.

3. Bring a friend!

Bringing a friend can relax you and hype up your excitement at the same time! You've chosen your best friend or significant other for a reason and that's usually because they make your happy - so bring them and that happiness to the photoshoot.

Bring the person who will tell you "DAMN! You look amazing!!!"

Bring the person who will stand behind your photographer making faces at your just to try to get you to smile.

Bring the person who will retell jokes and stories that will get you and the photographer laughing.

Your person wants to lift you up... your person wants to spend time with you... bring your person!

4. Trust in your photographer!

Your photographer is a creative and their brain will focus on photographing you in a way that will compliment your style and personality.

The formula for amazing photos is a relaxed, confident, and happy you. If you trust your photographer, and their process, you will free yourself from worry and you will shine through.
